We are a cell & molecular biology research group at Georgia College & State University, the designated public liberal arts university in the state of Georgia, USA. We have been active since early 2022.
Undergraduate researchers in our group conduct independent research projects investigating the role of RNA structures in the regulation of gene expression. Current projects focus on messenger RNA untranslated regions from human cancer-related genes. Students leading these projects address mechanistic questions broadly applicable to non-canonical means of mRNA translation.
Our group is more generally interested in control of gene expression at the translational level. This includes the nuanced role of the ribosome in protein synthesis, initiation of translation in eukaryotes, and the role of RNA structures in mRNA stability and translation efficiency.
Undergraduates trained in our group undergo robust training in cutting-edge research strategies as they prepare for advanced degrees in science & medicine, as well as the biotechnology industry.
GCSU also offers a graduate MS program in Biology, and as well as a BS-MS integrated program.
If you are a student interested in research, please do get in touch.
